My New Favorite App

Admittedly, I’m late to the apple/iphone party. I use a pc and am still hanging on to my blackberry. But, I did get an iphone 5 about six weeks ago. While I still can’t quite get used to the email features on the iphone, there are certainly qualities I love about it. The night before traveling to Florida in early December, I was able to check-in for my flight while riding the bus home from a meeting. I thought that was cool. And I do love my Starbucks app – I can reload my account and pay for my drinks right on my phone. I know, people have been doing this for years. I told you, I’m late to the party but happy to be here.

My understanding is there are about 700,000 apps available at the app store! Clearly, I’m just getting started. I just heard about a great app on the Dr. Oz Show and I just downloaded it to my phone. It is called Breathe2Relax.

Breathe2Relax encourages diaphragmatic breathing which is proven to help reduce stress and anxiety. I know the importance of calming my body’s “fight or flight” syndrome but am just as guilty as anyone of getting lost in a stressful moment. I love that I have a portable tool to not only remind me to calm down, and, even if calm to relax just a bit more, but also to provide the mechanism to enable me to do so anywhere.

The app is free and customizable. You can choose visual settings such as a rain forest, beach, flowers, meadows or a sunset. You can also select background music such as soft, New Age sounds; seaside effects, piano or light percussion. Or, you can turn the music off and breathe in silence. You determine how long to inhale and exhale based on your breathing capacity.

Right now the app is on my home screen right about my phone link so I’ll be sure to see it a lot throughout the day. I’m looking forward to putting it to good use.

I’d love to know about your favorite “healthy” apps. Which ones do you use regularly? Which ones have made a noticeable difference in your well-being?

  1. Thanks for the app. I just downloaded it. I function alot in the “Fight or Flight” mode and it’s very stressful. I will give this a try. For relaxation and getting to sleep I really like a series of apps by Andrew Johnson. Try him first as he has a Scottish accent.I like it but some don’t.

    Thanks for your post.
